UKELA Council welcomes, CRA Chief Consultant, Prof. Paul Leonard
The United Kingdom Environmental Law Association (UKELA) is the UK forum which aims to make the law work for a better environment. Members of their Council are primarily drawn from practicing members of the legal profession and their duties include good governance and continual professional development.
During 2008 and 2009, CRA Chief Consultant, Prof. Paul Leonard has been participating in UKELA meetings including environmental risk and emergency response. He was successful at the recent elections to become a member of UKELA Council, becoming one of the few environmental scientists to be involved with such duties.
Paul said: ‘Throughout my career, the legal conundrum of having appropriate environmental data from which to make a decision is an issue that has fascinated me and I have lectured and mentored students at Brunel and Plymouth Universities on this subject. My work has covered many topical environmental issues, especially how change and risk are considered by society. I hope that through the UKELA Council that I will be able to help members with advice on the implementation of legislation and their continual professional development’ - Prof. Paul Leonard BSc (Hons), MSRP, CRadP., C. Biol., FI Biol., CSci., C MarSci., FI MarEST, FLS
