Jim Borggren joins CRA as a Chief Consultant
Jim joins CRA from Rolls-Royce where he primarily supported the nuclear new build program, including GDA and site licensing work. Jim was also involved in a generation 4 liquid metal fast reactor development project and with the Rolls-Royce defense and submarine business.
Prior to his time with Rolls-Royce Jim worked on safety and reliability issues in the oil and gas, rail, and nuclear sectors (both civil and defence) while employed by Parsons Brinkerhoff, Amec, Mott MacDonald, BNFL, and RPS.
Before moving to the UK (he was born and raised in Chicago, and earned a BSc in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Illinois) he worked of American Electric Power in support of an operating Westinghouse PWR.
Although his experience is very wide ranging (including new build, support to operating sites, and decommissioning, for a variety of nuclear reactor types) we expect that his main contributions to the CRA team will be in the area of probabilistic safety assessment, reliability analysis, safety case production and safety critical systems / C&I work (IEC 61508 compliance).
Jim lives on the outskirts of Macclesfield with his wife Kath and their cat Tess. In his spare time he enjoys playing tennis and Tai Chi Chuan - although injuries have conspired to end his competitive career playing for any of the Macclesfield Tennis Clubs teams.
