Go4SET Celebrate Pupils’ Achievements
Chief Consultant at CRA, Professor Paul Leonard was asked to be the Chairman of the Go4SET Evaluation Panel, celebrating the achievements of 40 pupils in the local area at the Go4SET Celebration and Assessment Day (CAD) which took place on Tuesday March 2nd at Clarendon Hall, York House, Richmond Road, Twickenham, TW1 3AA
Six teams represented South West London in this national initiative which is part of the Engineering Development Trust’s suite of schemes. Go4SET is aimed at stimulating the interest of young people in science, engineering and technology (SET) at a key stage in their education.
The teams of six 12 to 14 year olds (Year 9) have been working with their teacher and mentors from industry on a challenging Go4SET Energy Conservation Project over a 10 week period. The pupils attending the CAD at York House, Twickenham demonstrated their individual projects to the Evaluation Panel, answer questions from the Panel and compete for prizes.
These “Hubs” run throughout the UK with 2500 students taking part this year. This Hub is being supported by Energy Solutions and Magnox South Ltd through the National Skills Academy for Nuclear. Participants of this scheme had the chance to visit a nuclear power station in Dungeness, Kent.
The Evaluation Panel had a difficult job comparing & contrasting the projects. The overall winners were the Waldegrave School for Girls. The photograph shows the winning team with their two teachers and Kim Wilson from British Energy.
